What is a Havanese Breed?

The history of the Havanese leads us back to the Canary Islands where the now extinct Bichon Tenerife crossbred with the poodle to create this new and elegant breed called the Havanese. The first thing to stand out about the Havanese breed is their beautiful coat, the coat will feel like refined silk however it does need regular grooming to prevent matting.  These dogs are actually classified hypoallergenic,  recommended for allergy sufferers because they do not shed very much. Most people wish to own the Havanese due to their small toy size and their easy train-ability compared to other small breeds. They can live up to 15 years, grow up to 11 inches in height and weigh up to 13 pounds so they are perfect for anyone that loves very small dogs. These dogs are also perfect for apartments where there is not a lot of space for those who wish to own canines.

Feeding the Havanese should be limited to three times a day in recommended amounts, always feed the Havanese a quality dog food which will last you very long as they are small dogs.  You can also occasionally give them healthy snacks such as carrots, apples (without seeds), and egg whites.

Is the Havanese Breed Aggressive?

The temperament of the Havanese is said to be gentle and affectionate. They love kids and longs for human companionship. This is one toy breed that you can keep happy with your other pets without having to worry about them fighting. They can also suffer from separation anxiety so it is not recommended to leave them alone or leave them outdoors for long periods of time. Another great part of owning Havanese is that you can easily travel with them which is a major hassle with other dog breeds. The Havanese is one of the smarter versions of the toy breeds and are very easy to train. They are one of the most apartment friendly dogs so that you do not have to worry about your landlord kicking you out, they also meet apartment weight specifications.
