What is a Pitbull Rottweiler Mix?

Most speculations lead to believe that the origins of the Pitbull and Rottweiler cross were first performed in the United States. The main intention behind crossing these two breeds of pedigree together was a dog breed that was an agile guard dog. The look of these dogs gives away their virtue, being powerful and imposing. You need to train this breed of dog well as they are difficult to maintain otherwise. You just need to keep this dog with you, and it will make a perfect agility dog.

Rottweiler Pit Bull mixed dogs weigh 45 – 100 pounds and are very protective when it comes to their owners. They do not bark a lot and require very little grooming and maintenance. These dogs are amazing when it comes to guarding, and they just love to play with children, although they can be too excitable for young kids. These dogs do require a lot of exercises; hence they may not be for novice dog owners.

Pitbull Rottweiler Mix Appearance

As the Pitwiler is a mix between the Pitbull and the Rottweiler, it can look like a mix of the two or more like any one of the breeds. Mostly this dog will have a large head like both of its parent breeds while having a muscular and powerful body like the pitbull and the long legs of the Rottweiler. The Pitweiler is also known to drool and have looser jowls like its Rottweiler parent. These dogs are tall like the Rottweiler and have thick legs and a muscular build of the Pitbull, and these features sure do turn a lot of heads.

As their parent’s size is quite different, the pitweiler is found in a wide range of potential sizes. The females are smaller and less light than the males. These dogs are usually between 45 to 100 pounds and can be between 18 to 26 inches tall. The coats of the Pitweiler come in a huge range of colors, including golden, blue, brindle, chocolate, black, brown, and speckled. The Rottweiler parent only has one shade of color, so the color of the Pitweilers coat is normally derived from the Pitbull side. Mostly you will be finding the black and tan combination of coats that are derived from Rottweiler.

The Pitweiler has the markings like its parent breeds as well. Their legs, muzzle, eyebrows, and chest are brown. They can have white socks and have snouts with white blazes. The coat of the Pitweiller is usually short, and they normally do not shed a great deal.

Temperament of Pitweilers

The Pitweiller is an energetic dog and is very playful. You need to give them the opportunity to get plenty of exercise or toys to play with. If you can’t allocate too much to play with them, then you should get them toys that can keep them busy. Pitweilers tend to be on the quiet side and do not bark unnecessarily. They will bark only to alert their owners or when they want to bring your attention to something. You will need to do a lot of positive socialization for this breed as they are mostly standoffish around strangers.

When the Pitweiler is around other smaller animals, then you need to keep a special eye out on it. This is due to the reality that both the parent breeds have a big prey drive. You need to train Pitweilers well so that they don’t chase around other smaller animals. Hence, supervising them at all times is required, so they don’t hurt any other smaller animal.

Also, if you have multiple Pitweilers, one may consider placing them with the opposite sex, as the females typically show aggression to each other.

Caring for a Rottie Pit

If you are a new owner, it is advised that you choose a different breed, although the Pitweiller is relatively easy to care for, having very few health issues. You need to ensure that the dogs are socialized well as they are growing up, so get a trainer who is well experienced to train this energetic dog.

If you are living in a house having a fenced-in yard and are looking for an active companion, this breed of dog is very appropriate for you. If you live in an apartment, it is best you avoid this dog as they have extensive exercise needs and are pretty big in size.

Exercise Needs of Pitweilers

The Pitbull Rottweiler Mix dog is highly energetic due to both its parent breeds being very driven dogs. To get your dog proper exercise, you will need to run it straight for at least an hour every day with another half an hour of play when you get back home.

If you want to exercise your dog physically, you can try out agility, tug, and fetch. These dogs will require two walks per day, and you should aim for a minimum of one hour of exercise per day.

Pitbull Rottweiler Mix Diet & Health

You need to feed them at least thrice a day, giving them a high protein diet. They will need to be fed between 1000 to 2000 calories per day with 3 cups of kibble serving.

If your budget allows, we recommend that you stick with a grain-free dog food formula for your Pitbull Rottweiler mix. Below are a few reputable dog food brands to choose from.

Some Pitweilers may not like all flavors of the same brand, so be sure to experiment with duck, salmon, chicken, etc. From our findings, most Pitweilers tend to like the chicken formula.

Suppose you would like to feed your Bullrott a balanced diet without breaking the bank. Purina One SmartBlend is a great option. We have had great success feeding this dog food over the years to our Pit Bull Phoenix.

Our dog goes crazy for the shredded chicken in the Purina SmartBlend kibble!

Bullrotts are usually healthy, having a few conditions such as Bloating, Allergies, Addison’s disease, Cataract, and Hip & Elbow Dysplasia occurring occasionally.

Winding Up

The Pitweiler dogs usually live from 8 to 12 years, and you can purchase them for between $150 to $800 from a reliable breeder.
