A Doberman Pit Bull mix is often called Dober Pit or Pit Pinscher but at the end of the day, it is still a mutt. I wouldn’t personally recommend breeding these dogs together as a lot of them end up in shelters. Don’t ever let someone sell you one of these puppies for a ridiculous price, go to your local shelter and adopt one instead. If you already own a Doberman Pit Bull mix or plan to get one this article will be helpful in better understanding them.
Where else can I get a Doberman Pit Bull Mix puppy?
You can often find them in classified sites. I know many people who are against this method of puppy buying for two very important reasons. The first one is that they are usually from backyard breeders who are looking to make a profit. Secondly, people believe that if others stop buying puppies from backyard breeders the business will stop on its own. My approach, however, differs from both of these views.
If I were to find a Doberman Pit Bull mix puppy in a classified website, I would surely purchase him however I will never pay the asking price. If I don’t do this, I know this poor puppy will end up in a shelter or be killed. If do purchase him or her at a very low price, the backyard breeder will not see much profit and the business will come to a halt.
How will my Doberman Pit Bull mix Puppy look and act fully grown?
Your Pit Pinscher will have a taller appearance than normal Pit Bull’s and weigh about 70-90 pounds.
Pit Bull’s and Dobermans have a maximum lifespan of 14 years so you can also expect a similar lifespan for your Pit Pinscher. The Doberman Pit Bull mix will shed minimally and will have a low grooming requirement like their parents. Your Pit Bull mixed puppy will have a high prey drive and may be aggressive to other dogs or animals so early training is necessary. These dogs will pay well with family members as long as they are made understood their place in the pack. Cross breeding these dogs will not bring about any aggressive tendencies. They are however high energy dogs so be ready to spend some time with them.
What do I feed my Doberman Pinscher Pit Bull Mix?
Recently a lot of dog foods made in China were being recalled due to chemical contaminants or salmonella so I advise you to do your research when selecting dog foods. Dobermans are known for bloating so be sure to give your Pit Pinscher “quiet time” in their crate after a meal if your pup inherited this problem.
Your Doberman Pit Bull mix should be fed a quality dog food like Orijen which is made by a Canadian manufacturer. They make Orijen for puppies, adults and senior dogs which makes it easy to stick with them as your dog ages. Orijen understands that your dog requires mostly a carnivorous diet with minimal fruits and veggies added in.
Even though Orijen dog foods are pricey, I’ve had great success with them in the past. One of the reasons I highly recommend them is that they grow their own ingredients for the dog food locally and prepares them as well. My own Pit Bull Terrier grew up on this dog food and she is a very healthy dog.
Your Doberman Pit Bull mix will make a wonderful companion for a long time to come. They do require a good pack leader that understands their needs and can exercise them daily. They will also make great guard dogs naturally. Here are some beautiful pictures of Doberman Terriers. Please submit pictures of your own mixed dogs by joining our canine gang on Facebook.
I recently saved a doberman pitbull mix. He is a great companion, very intelligent.
Hi Christie they are really great dogs, I hope this article increases awareness of different mixes like these out there!
I recently came into possession of a pit/dobie mix and she’s absolutely beautiful and bonding to me well. I have lucked out because I have three other small dogs (male) as well as a medium female, and she’s been going out of her way to make friends with all of them. She has really taken to our “special” dog that acts like he has the doggy version of autism. She’s only three months old, so sometimes she doesn’t realize how rough she plays with the smaller ones, but she corrects herself immediately. I am really glad that I found her.
Dear Mary,
I am glad you found her, they will all be fine as the Dobie/Pit may become the pack leader so that there is no competition or fights. Just be sure to feed them all separately if you have problems during feeding time. Wishing you a wonderful holiday to you and your family!
Thanks for the comment!
Vin
My goodness! That light tan picture, second one I think, is the spitting image if my puppy! I thought he was pit and may, whodathunk he was half dobey!
I have a doberman/pitt mix. I was glad to come across this website, I just wish it had more information…example..how big they get, but I did come across another web site that gave me an idea of how big they can get.
Hi Donna, thanks for visiting! the height of a mixed breed can vary but they can weigh around 60 to 90 pounds. Ultimately the height will depend on the type of Pit Bull that bred with the Doberman.
Glad to see that many appreciate the joy that cross bred dogs can bring.
I had a pit/Dobe mix for 12 years. He was the best. About a 100lbs. If they grow in the correct proportion which is hard to do, you get a better personal and home protection dog. You don’t have to train them to protect you or your home and whomever you take to they will also. Duke was the best. I’d never get a pure pit or dobe. If I had it to do over again I’d get another mix or get a Rottie.
I agree with your comment, a Pit Bull has pretty good genetics and a Dobe Pit Mix would make great protection dog naturally. There are so many mixed Dobe Pit mixes in shelters, hopefully people will see the value in adopting them. Thanks for your comment, be sure to join our group “Canine Owners” on facebook.
I just recently rescued a Doberman/pitbull from a horrible person. This man and his friends were beating the puppy and smoking drugs and blowing it in her face trying to get her high. This poor pup was malnourished, dehydrated and so very timid. My daughters friend knew the guy that was a using Google the dog. I told him bring the puppy to me. As soon as I saw her my heart broke and melted. I wasn’t sure if she was sick or what breed she was, the guy told me was a pure pit. I knew she wasn’t. Itook her to the vet and the vet gave her her shots and a good check up and said she was a Doberman/pit mix. Slowly she is getting back to health and always stays by mine and my kids side. She also is already becoming less fearful. We named her shadow cause she’s all black and has a white patch on her chest.she is very very smart, easy to Train and loving.
It is a great thing that you did, may God bless you and your family! I don’t know how some people can be so cruel to animals in this world. You can post pictures of her in our forums or in our face book group. forums or our group on facebook Also, thanks for visiting our website!
Im getting a dobi/ bully mix as well…a puppy, what food brand do you feed yrs..the one the breeder had her on is pricey..?
Purina SmartBlend Puppy formula is a good and affordable choice but some puppies are picky eaters so you may want to mix in some wet good such as the Alpo Gravy Cravers. My dog has done well on them for many years now. If you are interested in discussions, please consider joining our Facebook group @canineowners.
Wish I could post ya a pic. Doctor said she about 4 months old. She still small but he said she will grow. The malnourished stunted a growth but with good care she will grow big.. just need her to get potty trained and get her to get along with my Olde bulldogge,Panda…☺
God bless you for saving shadow from such abuse, glad to hear she is doing well.
I have a pitdobie sweetest thing. Watch out although they may act dumb its a whose because my dog has taught herself how to upen our back door, turn on the bathroom sink and even how to look like a dangerous dog on our walks lol. People run from her and tell me to control her when she hasas never been off leash, parents yell at their kids for coming near her and when they get to us deja licks the kids and they laugh.. I laugh at the shock on their faces because deja looks exactly like what she is a pitbull doberman mix and people assume I’m a bad person and she’s a bad dog lol she’s been with me a year now and the looks and comments just get worse I’ve been threatened that if they see my dog on the street off leash they will shoot her but thank god I’m a good owner and my dog never leaves without a leash.
Be a good responsible owner and this mixed breed will love you unconditionally and will save your life one day. They are both great dog breeds and together they are amazing wouldn’t trade my baby girl for the world. She doesn’t take well to strangers, she is a 60 pound teddy bear but if you are a stranger and you walk into our house unauthorized watch out.. she turns from a teddy bear to a cujo. hair up, barking like you take one step closer she’s going to bite your head off but in all reality its just an act.. as soon as she knows i’s OK with them being their she backs off. She’s the best dog in the world 100% worth the 50 dollars I bought her for and the couple hundreds on vet visits and the 1,000 dollars worth of damage she’s caused in her first year of life. But you would spend way more on kids and dogs dont talk back lol.
Oh ps. Your going to need a bigger bed.. I have a king and I either end up on the floor or end up with a 60 pound dog on my chest that believes whole heartedly that she’s a chihuahua… great family dog. Great people dog and family, no not a very good tie up in the backyard and forget about dog but then again I don’t know any that are.
Where can i find one??? I live in Pensacola FL and really would love to have one.
Try sites like Oodle or your local rescue areas.

I have a Doberman pitt mix that i got at 5 weeks old. She is now 3 and weighs 55 lbs. She is the sweetest and most loving dog i have ever seen. She loves all other dogs and people. BUT she will kill a cat in a split second. She is gorgeous. Very protective and very loyal
My dog is awesome I’d love to find him a girl friend.
He is a big pit/ doberman he is blue with doberman markings.
pretty sure dogs dont have relationships like that
I absolutely adore mine. She has a hilariously beautiful personality that is HUGE. She loves kitty cats, especially kittens. She’s very loving unless she’s thinks someone has injured one of cats…..she’s collected 5 that now live inside the house with her.
I’ve got 12 pitt/doberman mix puppies, not a planned breeding. I’m not a breeder, just an animal lover. My wife would save, rescue every animal in need if possible. Our pups are five weeks old, been to the vet once for desiring and scheduled for first round of shots Thursday of this week. Not charging a dime for these pups however really concerned with them getting a good home, I can’t just give them to anyone. I like ur site, informative. Thanks for all u do.
Hi Steve,
Do you still have any of these pups? If so, what state are you in?
I have a doberpit he’s almost two but I think his mother had the resesive warlock gene cause he’s well over 100 pounds but perfect body and beautiful muscle tone…I wouldn’t trade him for the world he’s an amazing dog and I’ve raised Dobermans and Great Danes… he’s soft and gentle with our 5 year old daughter as a matter a fact she’s the only one that can walk him on a leash without him pulling… love this mixed breed and had told all my friends with a family about them…everyone in our town has come to see how beautiful and well behaved he is and beg us to breed him but I’m not a breaded anymore he’s just our little girls best friend and greatest protector!
Best! Dog! Ever!!! I got this cute “little” black and tan Terrier looking cutie from the Humane Society after my husband passed away. They assured me she would probably get “no larger then 20-35 pounds” when fully grown. She is now 10 months old and still growing. Last vet visit she weighed 57 pounds. I’m quite certain she is around 65 pounds now. I raised Dobermans until I had grandchildren years ago. My new dog has the mannerism and elegance of a Doberman, but the wider forehead and shorter stocky muzzle of a pit Bull. Best of both worlds. I couldn’t have ask for a better dog.
We have 3 of these beautiful pups ,fawn in color, 3 different pits with English doberman mix ,1 blue eyes 1 green 1 golden brown, 1 has a heart shaped nose ,we have a blast ,our son has austim, he enjoys them ,2 males 1 female, shes my lap pup ,vet said she won’t get very big she’s the runt ,boys are already topping 100 pounds at 8 months, they eat iams big breed puppy, plus I feed them home cooked meals, never fry ,I feed them duck ,chicken, Turkey, ham ,steaks ,think we were blessed to get them at 5 weeks old ,we were lied to about being winged when sold ,we took them to the vet before taking them home, I may have to fight for a spot in the bed it’s all good, high protein foods, they need to grow ,make sure they get plenty of green vegetables, carrots, dha for brain ,lots of love and hugs .dnt forget joint therapy treats .
